Important Shipping Update – Canada Post Strike

 

As of September 25th, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has announced a national strike, which means that Canada Post is not accepting or delivering packages until the disruption ends.

 

What this means for you:

  • No shipments outside of Canada at this time, since those routes rely on Canada Post.

  • Within Canada, I will be switching all shipments to UPS until service is restored.

  • Orders already in the Canada Post system may experience significant delays.

 

I know this has been a challenging year for shipping - from duties, carrier changes, and now this unexpected strikes. I truly appreciate your patience and understanding as I navigate these ups and downs to keep your wigs and accessories moving safely to you.

 

For now, UPS will be my primary carrier, and I’ll continue to monitor updates closely. I’ll keep you informed if anything changes.

🇺🇸 U.S. Shipping Update 

An Important Update for Our U.S. Customers-&

Why Things Are Changing

Hey Hair Bestie 💌

I’m reaching out with a tough but necessary update regarding our U.S. shipments- and it’s not easy for us to say.

 

What’s Causing This?

As of August 29, 2025, the U.S. government has officially eliminated the "de minimis" tariff exemption- which previously allowed low-value packages (under US$800) to enter the U.S. duty-free. Now, every wig- no matter its value- must clear customs and is subject to applicable duties.
 

How This Affects Your Order:

  • Pre-made wigs (made in China) now incur a ~30% tariff- that’s about $45 CAD on a wig priced around $150.

  • Handmade/custom wigs crafted here in Canada are now being tagged with a 35% tariff- yes, even though they’re made with love right here.
     

I genuinely wish we could cover this ourselves- but absorbing these fees would wipe out all our profit- and more. As a small business, that’s simply not sustainable.

What You Can Do Right Now

We get it, and we miss you already. If you're still eager to shop but want to minimize costs:

  • Order one wig at a time rather than grouping several together.

  • Or, pause your purchase for now- we completely understand, and we’ll be here whenever you're ready to return.

 

We’re devastated that things have come to this. Many of you have been with us since the beginning, and your support means everything. We had hoped a resolution might come sooner- but so far, nothing has changed.

 

From the bottom of our hearts, we’re sorry. We see you, we miss you, and we hope to find a path forward soon as we continue figuring all of this out.

New Duty Payment Rules Starting August 29, 2025

 

Heads up! There's been a major change to how all shipments from Canada to the United States are handled.

Starting August 29, 2025, the U.S. government is suspending the duty-free threshold of $800 USD, which previously allowed lower-value goods to cross the border without duty fees. Now, all packages- regardless of value- must have duties prepaid before entering the U.S.

This change was introduced under U.S. Executive Order 14324 and applies to every shipping method (postal, courier, or commercial freight).

🛍️ What This Means for Our U.S. Customers:

  • Every package shipped from The Wig Spa Canada to the U.S. must now include proof of prepaid duties.

  • This includes orders under $800 USD, which were previously exempt.

  • The current duty rate for Canadian goods is approximately 35%.

  • You may notice these duty fees reflected at checkout or will be contacted for payment before your shipment is released.

 

📦 We’re Working to Make It Easy

We’re currently exploring integration options to make duty payments easier for our U.S. customers. While we’re not directly connected to Canada Post’s Zonos® system, we’re actively looking into tools and solutions that will allow:

  • Duties to be calculated automatically at checkout

  • Simplified, prepaid shipping with fewer customs delays

  • Clearer costs upfront with no surprise charges

 

Our goal is to ensure all shipments comply with the latest U.S. import regulations, and we’ll continue to update you as our systems evolve.

🚨 Important Notes:

  • Orders placed on or after August 29, 2025 may experience brief delays as this system rolls out.

  • If you’re a U.S. customer planning a large order, feel free to contact us so we can walk you through duty charges ahead of time.

  • Canadian customers are not affected by this change and can continue shopping as usual.
