WIG CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Taking great care of your wig will help it last longer, stay soft, and look natural. Here’s everything you need to know to keep your wig in the best condition possible.
1. Shampoo & Conditioning Products
For synthetic wigs, you can use:
✔ Brandywine Shampoo & Conditioner
These are designed specifically for synthetic fibers.

✔ Aussie Apricot Shampoo/Conditioner
This is my personal favourite because it makes synthetic hair extremely soft -
But only use this brand if you're choosing a non-wig shampoo.

2. Washing the Wig
-
Fill a bowl or sink with cool or lukewarm water.
-
Add a small amount of Brandywine OR Aussie Apricot shampoo & conditioner.
-
Gently place the wig in the water - don’t scrub, twist, or rub.
-
Let it soak for a few minutes.
Rinsing is crucial.
Synthetic fibers trap product easily.
Rinse VERY thoroughly under cool water.
-
You may need to wash 2-3 times to remove oils, dust, dirt, or buildup.
-
If the wig feels stiff or isn’t moving naturally, it likely needs a deep wash.
3. Conditioner
After shampooing:
-
Fill a basin with cool water
-
Add a small amount of Brandywine or Aussie Apricot conditioner
-
Let the wig soak for 5-10 minutes
For extremely dry synthetic wigs:
Let the conditioner soak overnight in a water/conditioner bath.
IMPORTANT for wigs with silicone added inside the cap:
-
Do NOT scrub around the silicone
-
Do NOT let conditioner sit on the silicone, as it can break it down over time
4. Lace Cleaning
If the lace is stained with makeup, use:
✔ Micellar water
Apply to a cloth
-
Gently press or blot between the lace
-
Avoid rubbing aggressively
If you use the Wig Knot Cover-Up Kit and get any product on the hair:
✔ Use Dawn dish soap + water on a cloth
This removes the colour instantly.
Regular shampoo will NOT remove Knot Cover-Up - only Dawn works.
5. Heat Styling for Synthetic Wigs
Only heat-friendly synthetic wigs can be styled with heat.
-
Use a flat iron, hot comb, or heat styler
-
Keep temperature LOW
-
My preferred setting: 360°F
-
Always use a spray bottle with water to smooth out kinks before using heat
-
Work in small sections and be gentle
Reminder:
If you straighten a curly synthetic wig with heat, it will stay straight permanently.

6. Detangling & Daily Care
-
Always brush from the ends upward
-
Use a wide-tooth comb or wig brush
-
For curly wigs, use fingers only
-
Avoid friction from sweaters, jackets, pillows, and car seats
-
A spray bottle with plain water is perfect for refreshing fibers
Avoid all leave-in conditioners on synthetics.
They cause buildup and stiffness because synthetic hair does NOT absorb product like human hair.
Once fibers get coated, the wig becomes stiff, tangled, and loses movement.
7. Human Hair Wigs
Human hair wigs follow a completely different washing and product protocol.
I have videos on my social media showing exactly what products and steps I recommend.
If you need guidance, feel free to message me or book a consultation.
8. Drying the Wig
-
Blot gently with a towel
-
Let the wig air dry on a stand
-
Do NOT use a blow dryer on synthetics
9. Knowing When It's Time to Wash
Your wig likely needs a wash if:
-
It tangles easily
-
It feels stiff or heavy
-
It doesn’t move naturally
-
There’s visible buildup
-
It smells like skin oils or products
Clean wigs always last longer and look more natural.
